
The Henry's Fork Foundation is proud to announce the following scholarship recipients!
Don C. Byers Memorial Scholarship
The scholarship award is for $2,500 and includes an internship that provides an opportunity to work with the Henry’s Fork Foundation summer field crews doing data collection on the river, monitoring fish populations, stream restoration, and water quality work.
Bryan Jones is the recipient of the Don C. Byers Memorial Scholarship. Bryan grew up in Kendrick, Idaho and currently goes to school at BYU Idaho in Rexburg where he is studying ecology, wildlife and fisheries to become a fisheries biologist. He has been married for two years to his wife Brittany and has a beautiful one year old daughter, Brooke. In his spare time Bryan enjoys fishing, hunting, hiking and camping.
Washington & Lee University - A. Paul Knight Memorial Scholarship
A. Paul Knight Memorial Scholarship Washington & Lee University, Lexington, VA rewards scholarships each year for students to assist HFF in summer field activities.
Jason Bacaj is a recipient of the A. Paul Knight Memorial Scholarship and is a sophomore at Washington and Lee University where he is pursuing a double major in Biology and Journalism. Originally from Morgantown, West Virginia, Jason plays football at W&L, and is a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee and First Book. In his free time, Jason is an avid skier, hiker and writer.
Zachary Segall is a sophomore at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA and is also a recipient of the A. Paul Knight Memorial Scholarship. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, Zachary is currently pursuing an American History major. At Washington and Lee he is heavily involved in both the Outing Club and the campus radio station. With the Outing Club, he volunteers to lead freshman on week-long backpacking trips prior to the start of the academic year. Zachary is looking forward to this opportunity and exploring the west.
Colgate University Scholarship
Colgate University, Hamilton, NY is rewarding a scholarship to provide an opportunity for a Colgate student to participate in HFF studies during the summer. The fund is a gift to Colgate and HFF from the late Jeff Timmons, professor emeritus in the Harvard School of business and one of the nation's leading experts in entrepreneurial development.
Catie Carr is a recipient of the scholarship from Colgate University (class of ’11). Catie grew up in Scotch Plains, New Jersey where she spent most of her time competitively horseback riding, playing clarinet in the marching band, and being outdoors. Currently she is involved with the Pep band at Colgate and enjoys learning about ecology and restoration. She looks forward to gaining field experience this summer with the HFF crew as well solidifying her desire to pursue her education in environmental biology.
Erich Rentz is the second recipient of a scholarship from Colgate University where he will graduate with Geography major and History minor in 2010. Born in Natick, Mass, but raised in Lebanon, NH, Erich loves New England and has rarely wondered far from the Northeast. An avid runner, Erich was all-state in his home state of New Hampshire in high school, but found balancing a varsity sport and school work in college too difficult. He is also a bit of a train enthusiast, a habit he inherited from his father. Being from a rather rural state, Erich has always loved the outdoors and often goes wandering in the woods.
AmeriCorp Program
Each year, AmeriCorps offers opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups. AmeriCorps members have the opportunity to gain new skills and experiences by working with individuals trained in a specific field of interest. AmeriCorps members have the opportunity to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back qualified student loans.
Cailin is an AmeriCorp member that will be completing a one-year program in Environmental Education with his service to the Foundation this summer. Cailin, 24, grew up in coastal northern California. After graduating from Lewis & Clark College in 2006 with a B.A. in Environmental studies with a concentration in Education, he moved to Idaho to pursue his passion for working on rivers. He has been a river guide for the past five years in Colorado, Oregon, and now Idaho. When not exploring rivers, he enjoys
